There are a few things to understand:
Shade range is how fair/light/medium/tan/dark your skin is, and then there is the undertone, meaning does your skin have a more yellow tint to it (warm), or is your undertone cool or neutral?
I will try to break down the foundations so you have a better idea of the shade range and undertone:
